Press Release – February 15, 2012
NAGICO Insurances in the BVI has announced its sponsorship of the Tortola Sports Club’s 2012 Open Tennis Tournament, slated to run from Sunday 19 to Saturday 25 February.
Managing Director of NAGICO BVI operations Shan Mohamed presented a sponsorship cheque of $6,000 to President of the Tortola Sports Club Mark Chapman on Tuesday 14 February. The presentation was made on one of the tennis courts at the club house in Pasea Estate.
Mr. Mohamed said he was pleased that NAGICO is again facilitating the tournament through its sponsorship, noting that the partnership between his company and the club dates back several years ago.
“Many of the top tennis players in the territory are looking forward to a good tournament,” said Mr. Mohamed. “And the 2012 NAGICO Open Tennis Tournament promises to be just that, and we are eager to see exciting tennis.”
Mohamed is himself a member of the Tortola Sports Club, and will be participating in the tournament in the Men’s draw. The categories in this year’s tournament are Ladies “A” Singles, Ladies “B” Singles, Men’s “A” Singles, Men’s “B” Singles, Mixed Doubles, and Under 18 Mixed.
In response, Mr. Chapman thanked NAGICO for its sponsorship of the tournament, adding that the club is looking forward to the company’s continued support in the coming years. “All the members of the club also express their unreserved gratitude for this contribution,” he said. NAGICO has been sponsoring the tournament since 2004.
Tennis Captain for the Tortola Sports Club Dion Anselm announced that there will also be a junior tennis launch on Saturday 25 February, when the finals will be held along with a family fun day and presentations to the various winners, to bring the curtains down on the tournament.
NAGICO Insurances, with headquarters in St. Maarten and operations in 16 countries in the Caribbean, opened office in the BVI in 1992. After occupying various smaller offices, the company moved into its own accommodation on Waterfront Drive in 2004. Mr. Mohamed has been heading the operations in the BVI since 1999.
